One Nations conspiracy world view (and more thread)

Still busy with work, next week should see me clear.

Great article from Graham Readfearn from The Guardian on Pauline Hansen and One Nation:

One Nation appears to have gone shopping to the Climate Science Denial Mart and come back with the whole deli counter of debunked talking points.

“What’s really behind all the global warming hoopla,” One Nation’s website asks.

“Power. It’s the same old Marxist/Communist/Fascist collectivist shtick, dressed up in new clothes. Global warming is all about a power grab by a wealthy elite and their collectivist sycophants — using the (United Nations) as a cover and tool.”

Elsewhere, One Nation accuses the Bureau of Meteorology and the CSIRO of engaging in the corruption of science.

Much of the material is near identical to that offered by the climate science denial organisation the Galileo Movement, whose patron – Sydney shock-jock Alan Jones – says human-caused climate change is a hoax and the science is “witchcraft”.

One Nation New South Wales Senate candidate Pauline Hanson even cites the Galileo Movement’s project leader Malcolm Roberts, asking readers to check out a document which Sydney Morning Herald environment editor Ben Cubby has described as a “pile of horse shit”.

I’m doing a longer piece examining the conspiracy world view of One Nation and other extremist groups in Australia next week titled “Conspiracy Nation”.

Give me your thoughts on what you’d like to know about the dark underbelly of Australian politics.

  1. I always love it when nonscientists accuse scientists of corrupting science. Dunning Kruger anyone? We shouldn’t really be surprised about anything the nutters at One Nation do or say, particularly given their low regard for evidence, reason and honesty.

It is well known that the ingestion of fluoride lowers immune efficiency. A daily dose of fluoride therefore must raise “Toxoplasma gondii” infection rates.

“We would not purposely add arsenic to the water supply. And we would not purposely add lead. But we add fluoride. The fact is that fluoride is more toxic than lead and just slightly less toxic than arsenic.” (source)

“The federal maximum contaminant level (MEL) for lead is 15 parts per billion (ppb), 5 ppb for arsenic and 4000 ppb for fluoride.” (source)

    yep, anti science in general

I have to laugh at the idea that the “wealthy elite” are behind the “global warming hoopla”. In fact all of the treaties propose a massive wealth transfer from the rich countries to the developing countries. For example the Copenhagen accord proposed the following:

Developing countries, especially these with low-emitting economies should be provided incentives to continue to develop on a low-emission pathway
States that “scaled up, new and additional, predictable and adequate funding as well as improved access shall be provided to developing countries… to enable and support enhanced action”
Agrees that developed countries would raise funds of $30 billion from 2010-2012 of new and additional resources
Agrees a “goal” for the world to raise $100 billion per year by 2020, from “a wide variety of sources”, to help developing countries cut carbon emissions (mitigation). New multilateral funding for adaptation will be delivered, with a governance structure.
Establishes a Copenhagen Green Climate Fund, as an operating entity of the financial mechanism, “to support projects, programme, policies and other activities in developing countries related to mitigation”. To this end, creates a High Level Panel

That certainly doesn’t fit in with the NWO, One World Government, Wealthy Elites, etc. etc. being the ones pushing AGW.
