While the world’s most prominent climate sceptics have been adamantly denying (tee hee) they’re not conspiracy theorists (“No truly, we’re not!”), over at “Watts up with that?” they’ve announced new they have specified guidelines for what people can – and more importantly – can’t discuss:
“Certain topics are not welcome here and comments concerning them will be deleted. This includes topics on religion, discussions of barycentrism, astrology, aliens, bigfoot, chemtrails, 911 Truthers, Obama’s Birth Certificate, HAARP, UFO’s, mysticism, and other topics not directly related to the thread. A Tips & Notes sections exists for bringing items of interest to attention…” (Note: see below)
I’m bitterly disappointed.
What am I going to for my morning laughs now that the “We’re not crazy, but….” crowd can no longer post at that venerable institution of science, reason and logic WUWT?
What, a spark of self-awareness? Dare I say it – a belated recognition there is a grain of truth in what Lewandowsky et.al have to say?
Well, colour me surprised!
The question is when did this policy come into place?
Still – I was just starting to have fun…
/sigh
UPDATE Some readers have provided a full history of Watts evolving comments policy, and the growing list of cospiracy theories the WUWT have had to exclude:
As it stood in November 2010 :
Certain topics are not welcome here and comments concerning them will be deleted. This includes topics on religion, discussions of barycentrism, astrology, chemtrails, and topics not directly related to the thread.
As it stood in July 2011:
Certain topics are not welcome here and comments concerning them will be deleted. This includes topics on religion, discussions of barycentrism, astrology, chemtrails, 911 Truthers, HAARP, UFO’s, mysticism, and topics not directly related to the thread.
‘Barycentrism’ is a new one on me. So, like any good netizen, I googled it. The first link proffered was to http://wattsupwiththat.com/tag/barycentrism/
So Watts is no longer happy discussing his own posts? His pontifications are now banned ex cathedra? Is the Pope of Denial about to abdicate?
Of course, expecting logic from the deniers is a fool’s task…
Well, that’s new me as well!
We can only hope that by 2013, climate change denial is also on the list of banned subjects but I suspect Mr Watts will find a way to avoid making a rational decision and accept the science. But, while there’s life, there is hope…
Sad, but true… 😉
Given that a “barycenter” is the balancing point between two bodies and it usually an astrophysical term describing where that point is between two bodies orbiting each other e.g the Sun and Earth (hint: the barycenter is very very close to the sun), I’m not surprised Anthony doesn’t want to discuss it. It’s a bit too sciency and factual.
looking at Nova’s post on “Lew is wrong, we are not conspiracy nutters”
my pick of the comments
Lewandowsky’s work is consistent with the goals I wrote about here http://www.invisibleserfscollar.com/we-need-a-radical-change-in-our-mode-of-consciousness-even-a-new-sense-of-being-human/
I have been working the last several days on just how much this type of psychology practice is the servant of the systems thinking global push to alter and control human behavior. Tracking the footnotes took me back to Milton Rokeach and his laying out the use of education and reeducation as he called it to alter values systems to control and change behavior. Lewandowsky is just the latest mediocre professor making his living pushing whatever will gain him grant money. And the money all over the West these days is in the behavioral sciences to try to get at human consciousness.
It’s an abomination everywhere. Blood money to enslave at the invisible level of the mind so that reality ceases to matter because the altered values control the perceptions. You believe in Climate Change and AGW and ignore temps and put up with statist controlling collectivist schemes as simply the necessary price that must be paid.
Tony Watts has put up a poll, showing that 98.4% of his readers reject (climate) science. His poll shows he’s ignored by the general public.
WUWT is nothing more than a fringe website targeting ‘nutters’ 😀 (‘Scuse the plug!)
Why is New World Order not in the list?
Define new world order
Speaking of Watts’ nuttiness are you folks familiar with HotWhopper.com and their examinations and rational deconstructions of various WUWT posts?
Good stuff, so good I put together an index:
