Tony Abbott you’re a disgrace: watch him implode on the 7.30 report

Tony Abbott is a fool, but he is more than that.

He is his a disgrace.

Watch Leigh Sales undertake this magnificent take down of the Australia’s would be Prime Minister.

Watch him dissemble, evade, lie:

Mr Abbott is continuing his political attack on the Government over the mining giant’s decision to mothball a $30 billion expansion to its Olympic Dam mine, saying the mining tax and the carbon tax are partially to blame.

But BHP Billiton chief executive Marius Kloppers says the decision was forced by rising costs and weaker commodity prices, and had nothing to do with the mining tax, which does not apply to the copper, uranium or gold extracted from the site.

And:

“But hang on, no, no, you haven’t read their statements today, but you’re on commenting about what they’ve announced today and how the Federal Government’s to blame for that,” she said.

“Leigh, I didn’t say that the carbon tax and the mining tax were solely to blame,” Mr Abbott replied.

“I said that the carbon tax and the mining tax have created an environment where it’s much more difficult for investments like this to go ahead.

“I bleed for the people of South Australia tonight because there’s 8,000 construction jobs, 4,000 production jobs and 13,000 associated jobs that are at the very best on indefinite hold because of this decision.”

But this morning Mr Abbott said he had read the BHP document “about 3:45pm yesterday afternoon” before going on 7.30.

Go on watch it, it qualifies as Australia’s most embarrassing political performance.

  1. Sammy Jankis says:

Abbott is now claiming that he DID read the BHP statement and that he never said he DIDN’T Apparently when he said ‘No’ to the question ‘Have you read the statement from BHP’ he was ‘answering some other question’. Will News Ltd ever be embarrassed for supporting this man?

  2. Sammy Jankis says:

In other news, Andrew Bolt sees Leigh Sales’ questions as evidence of “Hate”.

  3. Sammy, it’s been years since Andrew Bolt said anything of consequence, his “opinions” are as vacuous he is. Besides, AB going crook about others hating is a bit rich given any enjoys putting the boot in at every opportunity.

As for Abbott, more and more people are starting to see that the emperor has no clothes.

  4. Sou says:

Tony Abbott should know that Olympic Dam is not subject to the MRRT. That was made clear and widely publicised more than two years ago when the mining tax was renegotiated and revised.

Since Tony Abbott can hardly claim to be ignorant of that fact, one can only conclude he wants to win power at any cost by telling endless lies.

  5. Joe R. says:

I do wonder. Are people finally waking up? Time will tell.

But Leigh Sales, listen carefully, gave him several chances to correct the “No, but…”, such as “Kloppers at least reads his own statements” and more as the interview goes on as she baits him for his initial “No” – she cottoned on very clearly and got a few more shots in.

Why did he not correct it? She gave him enough chances.

Then earlier, in front of the Despatch Box, he clearly misled Parliament by “correcting” what he said to Leigh Sales. That is regarded as a cardinal sin and immediate resignation.

But… he will probably get away with it.
