Image of the day: a surge in food prices brings revolution

Surges in the prices of commodities (food price index) and social unrest appear to be tracking:

Now, think about the coming decades when climate related disasters in the US, Canada, Korea and other parts of the globe become more frequent and disrupt the fragile, global food chain we’ve created in the post-war years.

Californian blueberries consumed by Australians in winter, a thing we will look back fondly on and wonder if it was all a dream…

Take this as another sign of the coming “market correction” climate change heralds.

    The massive surge in food prices cannot be explained by increasing volatility and extremes in climate, but can be explained by a combination of increasing energy costs and competition for scarce agricultural land from biofuels.
